Le photographe israélien David Rubinger est mort le 2 mars 2017 à l’âge de 92 ans. Né à Vienne, il a immigré en Palestine en 1939 et a combattu avec la « Brigade juive » pendant la guerre. Il a travaillé pour Life. David Rubinger a reçu en 1997 le Prix d’Israël.

On lui doit certaines des photos les plus emblématiques de l’histoire du pays. Dans un interview, il disait cependant que le photographe n’y est pour rien si la photo devient emblématique, c’est le spectateur qui la rend iconique.

Le président Rivlin lui a rendu hommage : « Il y a ceux qui écrivent les pages de l’Histoire et il y a ceux qui l’illustrent à travers l’objectif de leur appareil photo. A travers ses photographies, David a immortalisé l’Histoire qui sera gravée à jamais dans nos mémoires »

3. Ben Gourion et Ariel Sharon en 1971 le long de la ligne Bar-Lev.

1971, Egypt --- General Ariel 'Akik' Sharon is one of Israel's most controversial characters. A war hero in the early days of the state, he first came to public attention in the '50's when he led a commando unit that made night reprisal raids across the border. He ledoff the 1956 Suez-Sinai Campaign with a daring parachute drop into the Sinai desert and in 1967 he raced with an armored unit to the Suez Canal. When he was O/C Southern Command he once invited his old boss, Ben-Gurion, to visit one of the undergroundforts along the Bar-Lev line in Sinai. Ben-Gurion was giving him a hard time.
